Watch: Carlos Gomez hit a home run without touching home plate

Let see, it only took the second batter of the game to rev up this much drama in the first inning as Milwaukee Brewers center fielder, Carlos Gomez hits a rocket dead center for his 23rd home run of the year. He can tell you that because he admired it from a far, yep he stood right there and watched it! When he did decide to run around the bases he had some choice words for Braves first baseman, Freddie Freeman! As he was rounding third base he barked at pitcher Paul Maholm, and then standing in his way of home plate was no other than catcher Brian McCann, who had enough of Gomez and his foolishness. Take a look:

                                    courtesy of mlb.com

McCann was just as wrong as Gomez, he escalated it more; but if you are representing the Atlanta Braves what other choice do you have? McCann is a hero to some as he made a stand protecting the Braves brand! The question is WHY? Does it have anything to do with Maholm hitting Gomez on two different occasions in the past? Too bad these two teams aren't playing one another in the playoffs! Oh by the way, does Gomez EVER touch home plate?

Alex Rios flex his muscles Monday night against the Houston Astros as he quickly hit for the cycle in six innings. Rios joins Mike Trout and Brandon Barnes as the only players to hit for the cycle this season. He smacked a two-run double in the first, reached on infield single to third, a solo home run in the fourth, and a RBI triple in the sixth inning. Take a look: courtesy of espn.com

The Texas Rangers went on to route the Houston Astros 12-0 as Ranger's pitcher, Derek Holland throws a complete game shutout allowing six hits and striking out nine, for his 10th victory of the season. Texas remains a game behind Cleveland Indians for the last playoff spot with seven games remaining.

Watch: Manny Machado leaves game with an apparant knee injury

Baltimore Orioles' Manny Machado. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya)[/caption] Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado's leg buckle from underneath him as he crossed first base running out an infield single in today's crucial series against Tampa Bay. The 21-year-old phenom was down several minutes before being carted off the field with an apparent left knee injury. Take a look:

By looking at Machado crossing first this almost reminds me of the incident that happen to the Louisville guard, Kevin Ware, whose leg snapped during the NCAA tournament. Ware had an open tib/fib fracture, hopefully Machado's injury isn't as significant as Ware; but as for right now fingers are crossed and prayers have been sent. Coming into today's action Manny Machado was batting .283 14HR 71RBI and 51 doubles.

Watch: Alex Rodriguez Passes A Yankee Great

Alex Rodriguez is no stranger to setting records. He will always be linked for his record-setting baseball contracts of $252M and $275M, setting a record for 211 games suspension by Major League Baseball for his involvement in P.E.D.s, and now passing the late Yankee great and Baseball Hall Of Famer, Lou Gehrig, with his 24th career grand slam. The opposite field home run came off of George Kontos in the seventh inning that broke a 1-1 tie that giving the playoff chasing Yankees a 5-1 victory Friday night against the San Francisco Giants. Take a look at Arod's grand slam.
courtesy of mlb.com
Arod's home run snaps a 1 for 25 slump and a needed victory for the New York Yankees, who have been slumping as of late. Yankees started the night 3 games back for the last wildcard spot. As for Arod, I'm not sure how this record will play as Alex passes a Yankee legend; but since he is still a member of the pinstripes at least its remains in the Yankee family.

Chris Davis becomes the second Baltimore Orioles to hit 50 home runs in a single season following former Oriole, Brady Anderson, who accomplished it in 1996. Davis connecting on a 2-2 pitch over the center field wall in the eighth inning that broke a 3-3 tie off of Toronto Blue Jays reliever, Steve Delabar. Davis is the 27th member to achieve 50 home runs in a season, Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays was the last to do it in 2010. Take a look at Chris Davis latest blast:
mlb.com

Chris Davis is making a very good case at winning the 2013 American League MVP award. He is currently at a .296BA 50HR 129RBIs. He joins Babe Ruth and Albert Belle as the only players in MLB history to achieve 50 homers and 40 doubles. Belle actually accomplished 50hr/50dbls. It will be difficult to pass the reigning MVP and last year's Triple Crown Winner, Miguel Cabrera who is once again having a stellar season as well, .348BA 43HR 133RBIs.

Watch: Jose Fernandez clears benches after admiring first career home run

Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports
                        Credit: Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

When Miami Marlins rookie pitcher, Jose Fernandez, turn on a Mike Minor fastball he look like he knew his way around a bat! Only problem was he kinda camped out at the plate like he was Manny Ramirez admiring one of his many home runs! Well, I guess I can't blame him, it was his first career home run in the Majors. He put some good wood on that ball I might add. Oh by the way I did mention he is a pitcher didn't I! Take a look: courtesy of mlb.com

Seriously, standing at the plate admiring your home run can often lead to bad things. Braves catcher, Brian McCann had verbal words with Fernandez at home plate that led to both benches clearing but nothing happen afterwards. After the game, Fernandez spoke on his altercations with Chris Johnson and Brian McCann.
"I feel embarrassed," the 21-year-old Fernandez said. "I feel like I don't deserve to be here, because this isn't high school. This is a professional game. I made a mistake. I'm going to learn from it."
This was Jose Fernandez last game of the season because he has met the 170-inning limit set by the team. He pitched another gem tonight going seven innings giving up one earn run and striking out five batters. He is now 12-6 with an ERA of 2.19 second to Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw. Marlins ended up winning the game 5-2.

Von Miller In Trouble Again

(USATSI)
                                                (USATSI)

Denver Broncos defensive stud, Von Miller, may as well grasp the nickname "CAN'T DO RIGHT" because of his latest antics with the law. Miller, who is already serving a six game suspension by the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy was cited for speeding and driving with a suspended or revoked license in Arapahoe County last week according to Denver CBS4.

It's not been a good week for the 24-year-old middle linebacker who is battling the Broncos' management because they are reclaiming $1.25 million of the signing bonus money they gave Miller. To make it worse they are withholding it from his paychecks when he's eligible to play again. OUCH! How's a man going to eat? Thank goodness his daddy was with him! The authorities released Von Miller allowing his daddy to take over the driving responsibilities.

Uh oh! Lawyers are involved! Keep an eye on this latest saga because this may have a huge impact on the Broncos' season. Bad enough Miller is missing the first six games. Don't be surprise if the two-time All-Pro linebacker comes back to the team as a disgruntled employee. He has no one to blame but himself.

Well we all knew what Tyrann Mathieu was capable of.  Making plays!  Today, the St. Louis Rams and their fans found out first hand what all the hype was.  To all you young football players, this is the reason why you never give up on a play.  Tyrann Mathieu punches out a would be touchdown and turns it into a fumble for a touchback.Take a look.

Watch: Adrian Peterson plus one carry equals a 78 yard touchdown

ap
Let's see it took Adrian Peterson only one carry to bring LIONS fans to their feet! Adrian Peterson has repeatedly said he is after 2500 yards rushing this season, which I would reply by saying good luck (sarcastically!); but after that first run I guess we will have to entertain the thought, right? Take a look at this first run by Peterson: Peterson_medium
                                courtesy of SB*NATION

All Day! Down the stretch they go! Damn, did he get faster after ACL surgery? I'm not sure if he will reach 2500 yards but it's going to be fun watching him attempt back-to-back 2,000 yard seasons. Adrian Peterson finished the day with 18 carries for 93 yards and 3tds. 2500-93=2407 to go!

Watch: Yusmeiro Petit loses perfect game in the ninth

(Photo: Kyle Terada, USA TODAY Sports)
(Photo: Kyle Terada, USA TODAY Sports)

Eric Chavez pinch-hit single was a crushing blow, breaking up a Yusmeiro Petit perfect game with two outs in the ninth inning. Chavez took Petit to a full count, forcing him to give a decent pitch to the veteran. Chavez wasted no time delivering a line drive base hit to right field. Giants right fielder, Hunter Pence, who made an important catch in the Tim Lincecum perfect game, was unable to come up with the heroics tonight which cost Yusmeiro Petit his chance at a perfect game. Petit retired the next batter, A.J. Pollack, for the final out and a 3-0 Giants victory. Take a look:                                                           courtesy of mlb.com
Yusmeiro Petit is in his second year with the Giants and fifth year in the majors. He has a lifetime record of 12-20 with a 5.37ERA in the big leagues, so he has to be a little disappointed not getting that perfect game. Baseball is so fickle, Petit may never have an opportunity to make history again. He stepped up tonight replacing the injured Matt Cain. He had a Matt Cainlike performance throwing 95 pitches for his first career complete game. Needless to say, it was still a perfect night for Petit. 9IP 7Ks 0walks and 1Hit running his record to 3-0.

Brewers season ticket holders gets a personal phone call from Ryan Braun

Ryan Braun hasn't face the media since his suspension by Major League Baseball for using performance enhancing drugs. MLB and Braun did agree on a 65 game suspension that would keep him out the remaining of the 2013 season. Instead of sulking and hiding from the world, Braun has taken an odd approach you don't see everyday. According to cbs58, Ryan Braun is calling Brewers season ticket holders to apologize for using performance enhancing drugs.
Pat Guenther, the owner of Kelly's Bleachers, shared with cbs58 his phone conversation with Mr. Braun, stating:
He picked up the phone thinking it'd be a joke.
"Hey Pat this is Ryan Braun," Guenther recalls. "Right then and there I knew it was his voice based on interviews I've seen on TV. I knew damn well it was his voice."
So he did what anyone in the service industry would do.
"I said what can I do for you? He said, I messed up, in a nutshell, I messed up. I just want to reach out and say I'm sorry. I cut him off right there. I said you know Ryan, I think you're an amazing athlete and this speaks volumes to your character to reach out to a small business owner like myself and let us know that you are going to do better."
Guenther's bar is a popular hangout for Brewers fans. He's also been a season ticket holder for more than 20 years. "Who hasn't made a mistake? People move forward. I think that's what Ryan is trying to do. He's moving forward. He has no other option. Be better, help his ballclub win games and win the hearts of Brewers fans like he has for many, many years." "He was very humble on the phone. He wanted to reach out and for him to do this is an act of kindness. He wants the people of Wisconsin to support the Brewers and him."

Personally apologizing to the Milwaukee Brewer fans is a clever move on Braun's part. Though he will forever have a tarnished legacy, he may eventually find some forgiveness when he gets reinstated back in the game.

Watch Eagles Cooper & Williams fight on the field

(AP Photo/Matt Rourke)
It's Not so Brotherly Love in Philly after all!  Thursday's practice in Philadelphia included a sparring session between the most controversial receiver in the NFL, Riley Cooper & newly acquired cornerback Cary Williams.  As both players were trying to make a play on the ball ended up in a altercation that may not have anything to do with football.  Take a look:
courtesy of comcastsports.com

If you don't know by now, Riley Cooper has been under extreme scrutiny for his outburst at a Kenny Chesney concert.  A video went viral showing Cooper using the N-word.  Cooper recently took a leave of absence in July hoping for the story to die down.  Only problem is, a certain Eagles' player, who had issues with what Cooper said showed some aggression at Thursday's practice. Cary Williams, who is known for being a hot-head, made his feelings known by shoving, throwing punches, grabbing Cooper's face mask and pitching his helmet, all that before Eagles quarterback, Michael Vick broke up the incident.  If we could only read lips!  Folks are fooling themselves if they really thought the Riley Cooper incident that happen close to two months ago was all forgiven.  This incident isn't a big deal, teammates are known to fight in practice.  They are itching for the season to start and altercations do happen; but the timing may be bad as Philadelphia will entertain rival the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.  Guess what the topic of discussion will be?

NASCAR driver gets five fingers to the face by a female

NASCAR driver, Max Papis found himself out of contentions Sunday afternoon when he collided with Mike Skeen's truck on the final lap of the Camping World Truck Series race held in Bowmanville, Ontario. As both racers were battling down the stretch for a second place finish, Papis said Skeen made an ill-advised aggressive move, which ultimately wrecked both trucks. Needless to say both drivers had verbal exchanges with one another that led to one of Skeen's crew members trying to grab him inside his truck. After Papis gave his post-race interview, he was greeted by a woman who wasn't quite a Max Papis fan! Take a look:

courtesy of ESPN.COM

Wow! What did the five fingers say to the face? SMACK! Can she get away with that? Here's Papis response to the blow to the face: Papis did not retaliate.
"What do you do? You don't hit a lady," Papis said. "I was in disbelief. Complete disbelief. If she would've closed her hand it would have been a bad punch, because she hit me so freaking hard. I went to [Skeen] and said, 'I guess we know who's the man in the family here, because the guy didn't even have the [guts] to talk.' "

I would have to agree with that. If woman can give a lick then she should be able to take a lick. The lady that struck Papis in the face is reported to be Mike Skeen's girl friend.

Watch: Jim Leyland's infamous moonwalk

Jim Leyland

The coolest manager by far has to be Detroit Tigers, Jimmy Leyland. When he's not openly smoking a cigarette in the clubhouse during major league baseball games, you can catch him showing off his latest dance moves. Prior to Saturday's game between the Tigers and Indians, Leyland had a dance off with the "King of

Pop." Take a look:
courtesy of mlb.com

As you can see, the Michael Jackson wannabe didn't want any part of the infamous moonwalk done by Leyland! Who's BAD! Could Dancing With the Stars want the services of Jim Leyland? He looks to be a potential candidate! Okay, you got me; I'm lying, the moonwalk was a little shaky!
