Tim Lincecum Does It Again: No Hits Padres!

Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum throws his second career no-hitter against the San Diego Padres Wednesday afternoon at AT&T Park in San Fransisco. Tim only threw 113 pitches striking out six and walking only one in a 4-0 Giants win. Lincecum recently threw his first no-hitter just last July against the same team in a 9-0 victory in San Francisco. The Giants have at least one no-hitter in three consecutive years now, two consecutive years by Lincecum and Matt Cain on June 13, 2012. The two-time Cy Young Award winner is in rare company joining four other active pitchers with multiple no-hitters, Homer Bailey (2), Mark Buerhle (2) and Justin Verlander. Portugal Ties The Game Leaving US and Thier Fans In Total Silence

What the hell just happened?  What seem to be a miraculous comeback and all-time high for the US soccer team and its fans ended up in a disappointing tie.  With 5 minutes of stoppage time added Portugal's superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, laid out a perfect kick to Silvestre Varela who was crafty enough to headbutt the winning goal past Tim Howard with literally 10 seconds left in stoppage time.  Take a: look

"Now we have to go out and beat Germany, that's what we have to do," U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. "We have to play Germany, we have one less day to recover, we played in the Amazon, they played on a place with less travel. We have to do it the tough way."

There is no reason to be somber about the results. The United States soccer team is playing enthusiastic and meaningful soccer and the important thing is they live to play another day. The drama continues Thursday as United States competes against Germany on at the same time Ghana and Portugal play.

Bottom line is, our country should be proud of every single one of these guys on the #USMNT leaving it all out on the field like always.

Clayton Kershaw throw no-hitter against the Rockies

Clayton Kershaw throws his first career no-hitter Wednesday night against the Colorado Rockies while striking out a career high 15 batters in a 8-0 shutout. Kershaw's no-hitter was the 22nd no-hitter in Dodgers franchise history and the second no-hitter in many weeks, Josh Beckett doing it against the Phillies last month.

Colorado Rockies entered the night leading majors in batting average as a team but they were no match for the two-time national league Cy Young Award winner, who threw 107 pitches and nearly had a perfect game. Kershaw retired the first 18 batters before Corey Dickerson hit a slow ground ball in the seventh inning to Dodgers' shortstop Hanley Ramirez whose throw sailed past first baseman Adrian Gonzalez resulting in a two-base error.

This is the second time the Rockies have been no-hit by a Dodger. The first time happened in 1996 season when Hideo Nomo did the unthinkable throwing a no-hitter at Coors Field.

Watch: Johnny Cueto strikes out on his breaking bat!

I guess it would have been a first. A pitcher actually breaking a bat over his knee after striking out. That is what Cincinnati Red's ace, Johnny Cueto tried to do Tuesday night after striking out when attempting to bunt. Only problem was he lacked the skills and charisma of a Vincent "Bo" Jackson, who perfected the breaking a bat over the knee. Take a look:

Ouch! Come on Johnny, your job is to pitch! The last thing we need to see is you on the 15 day DL for what would be an ill-advised injury! For starters, try breaking a bat that is on the verge of breaking! For future reference study some of the other ball players that have had success in doing so. Hey Johnny, checkout Bo Jackson:



Now Johnny, don't even think about breaking one over your head. That would be insane and added embarrassment!

Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn dies at 54

Former San Diego Padres Tony Gwynn died early Monday at the age of 54, according to Major League Baseball. Gwynn, who was the San Diego State University baseball coach, was placed on medical leave back in March while recovering from on going cancer treatment. Gwynn had been battling salivary cancer since 2010; having two operations for cancer in his cheek August 2010 and February 2012.

The fifteen time all-star will forever be Mr. Padre owning the national league in hitting as he won eight national league batting titles with a lifetime batting average of .338 during his 20-year career with the San Diego Padres. He finished with 3,141 hits placing him 18th all-time. Gwynn was known as one of the purest hitters of all-time only striking out 434 times in 20 seasons. He also won 5 gold gloves in his major league career.

Gwynn was inducted into the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2007 alongside Cal Ripken Jr receiving 97.6% of the votes.

"This is an extraordinarily sad day," Ripken Jr. said in a statement. "Tony was a Hall of Fame ballplayer but more importantly he was a wonderful man. Tony always had a big smile on his face and was one of the warmest and most genuine people I have ever had the honor of knowing. Like all baseball fans I will miss him very much and my thoughts are with his family today."

The sporting world has lost one of the sweetest man ever, no one love talking baseball, the art of hitting more than Tony Gwynn, he will be sorely missed.

Padres select Johnny Manziel in 28th round of MLB Draft

Could Johnny Football be a two sport athlete? San Diego Padres may think so as they selected Cleveland Browns first round draft pick Johnny Manziel in the 28th round of the 2014 MLB draft Saturday afternoon. Manziel, who played the infield growing up, was the 837th overall choice in MLB Draft. He never played baseball for Texas A&M, and the last time he played organized ball was in high school.

If Johnny Manziel plans own being a superstar in the NFL then his dream of playing MLB will probably never happen. However if this football thing doesn't workout who knows, maybe JohnnyBaseball will take off!

Brady Aiken and Astros agree on $6.5 million signing bonus

 

It only took two days for the Houston Astros to ink their number one draft pick, Brady Aiken. The 17-year-old phenom pitcher just became a rich man Saturday signing a 6.5 million contract tying Jameson Taillon for the largest signing bonus ever given to a high school pitcher. Aiken topped off his senior year with a 1.06 ERA, 111 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings for Cathedral Catholic High which is in San Diego. Though the agreement is verbal both sides have until July 18th to finalize a deal.
