Kenny "The Jet" Smith Punks Shaq!

credit goes to @recordsANDradio I guess you can't judge a book by it's own cover.  Mind you Kenny Smith is only about 6'3 and a buck 90! While Shaquille O'Neil is 7 foot, 3 and some change!  The Jet may have gotten the best of Shaq this go around but don't be surprise if Shaquille comes clowning back!

I think Shaq might have a new career in being a stuntman!

Bumgarner Brings San Francisco A Third World Series Title

http://crazy4sportz.com/
crazy4sportz.com

Three rings  in five years for the San Francisco Giants as their ace and 2014 World Series MVP, Madison Bumgarner does the unthinkable pitching five innings in relief, giving up two hits and no runs on two days rest to preserve a 3-2 victory.  Giants manager, Bruce Botchy wasted no time putting Madison in the bottom of the fifth inning with a one run lead thanks to a fourth inning rbi single by designated hitter Mike Morse scoring Pablo Sandoval.

The 25-year-old Bumgarner threw a shutout in Game 5 came back in heroic fashion helping the Giants end a streak of home teams winning the last nine Game 7s.

The ninth inning however didn't go without a little drama as Giants center fielder Gregor Blanco misplayed a two-out Alex Gordon line drive single that went for a two-base errors.  Many Royals fan hopefuls wished Gordon would have continued to circle the bases deciding the game at the plate.  It didn't happen and with Salvador Perez up with the season on the line.  Here is how the 2014 World Series ended: (via MLB.com)
Bruce Botchy is the tenth manager to win 3 World Series title.

Top ten reasons how the Royals got to the World Series

kansascity.com kansascity.com

Kansas City Royals punch in their World Series ticket for the first time since '85!  That was so long ago that George Brett, the heart and soul of that team is now 61-year-old.   Ronald Reagan was in office for a second term, the popular star-studded song "We Are The World" was a smash hit, Coca Cola's introduced New Coke, Rod Carew of the Anaheim Angels became the 16th player to achieve 3,000 hits in a career and I had a head full of hair!  It's now 29 years later and the Royals are back in business running through American League playoffs unscathed.  Here are the top ten reasons  the Kansas City Royals are back in the World Series for the third time in franchise history.

10. Eric Hosmer's triple in the 12th inning  hosmer

The 2014 Kansas City Royals had to do the unthinkable.  In order for the Royals to get to the World Series they had a must win wildcard game.  This is baseball's version of March Madness, win or go home.  KC was down 7-3 to the Oakland A's in the eighth inning before tacking on three runs in the inning follow by a clutch run in the bottom of the ninth.  Tied at seven in extra innings, Oakland struck first by scoring the go-ahead run.  Kansas City came up in the bottom half and showed their will by a one out triple by Eric Hosmer. (via MLB.com)

9.  Salvador Perez's walk off single in the bottom of the 12th inning gives KC a 9-8 victory!bleacherreport.com bleacherreport.com

After the heroic triple, Hosmer scored off an infield single by Christian Colon.  Colon soon stole second to get into scoring position.  Which sets the stage for Salvador Perez who was 0 for 5 at the plate with two outs.  Check out his game winning hit. (via Great Baseball Plays)

8. Nori Aoki makes two outstanding catches that keeps the game knotted at 2. www.cbc.ca
www.cbc.ca

Game 1, on the road, in LA, game tied at 2.  The Angels had men on first and second looking to blow this game open.  If Aoki doesn't come up with that Howie Kendricks' long flyball then the Angels might have won that game. (via Carrington Harrison) and you can view the second catch below (via MLB.com)

7. Mike Moustakas' go-ahead HR in the top of the 11th as KC defeats LA Angels 3-2!AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill
AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill

As the clock strikes midnight Mike "Moose" Moustakas delivers the crushing blow giving the Royals a win in Game 1 of the ALDS.  No better way to start your post-season career by belting out a home run in the area where you grew up. (via MLB.com)

6. The Royals have a knack for stealing bases. butler
Kansas City tied a MLB record stealing seven bases in the wildcard game against Oakland A's out of eight tries. It continued in the ALDS as slugger Billy Butler added insult to injury for the LA Angels as he too steals a base! It doesn't matter who KC has on first.  Look for them to continue making their move on the first or second pitch.  Jarrod Dyson and Terrance Gore are added speedsters coming off the bench to go alongside the likes of Cain, Gordon, Hosmer who will swipe a base on you
Last stolen base was in 2012!

5. Herrera, Davis & Holland sportsnola.com sportsnola.com[/caption] The best law firm I mean bullpen in baseball!  If KC is leading after six inning chalk it up as a Royals win!  It all starts when Kelvin Herrera comes in the seventh throwing ridiculous heat. (via MLB.com) The eighth inning belongs to Wade Davis continues throwing heat! (via MLB.com) Greg Holland is the closer the modern-day Dan Quisenberry!  When he enter the game is over! (via MLB.com)

4. Alex Gordon taking over Game 1 of the ALCS vs Baltimore Orioles bleacherreport.com
bleacherreport.com

Alex Gordon stole the show in his first ever ALCS game as he breaks his bat hitting a bases clearing double for an early 4-0 lead.  He makes an incredible catch out in the field and breaks a 5-5 tie in the top of the tenth inning to take a 1-0 lead in the ALCS. Here is a look at the broken bat bases clearing double (via MLB.com)

3. Lorenzo Cain's bid for a post season Gold Glove  and MVP of the ALCS  bleacherreport.com bleacherreport.com

I don't think anybody has enjoyed the baseball playoffs more than Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain.  Cain has surprised many with his .533 batting average in the ALCS but the world should know that the Royals center fielder is a magician out in the field.  He has saved the Royals by taking away potential runs from opponents during crucial time. (via MLB.com) (via MLB.com)

 2. Mike Moustakas goes head first over the dugout rail making a catch on a foul ball    kansascity.com kansascity.com

The Royals defense has taken so many opportunities away from the opposing teams and plays like Moustakas giving up his body is the sole reason why the Royals are in the World Series. (via MLB.com)

1. NED YOST  grantland.com grantland.com
The Royals were 48-50 on July 21st and everyone in Kansas City was calling for Yost's head. Their final 56 games of the season the Royals finished with a 36-20 record that led to an 89-73 finish and a wildcard berth. A playoff berth that hasn't happen in 29 years. Since the playoffs have begun the Cinderella Royals have outsmart the likes of Bob Melvin, Mike Scioscia and Buck Showalter with their managerial moves. Pushing the right buttons making moves to pinch hit and pinch run in the latter part of the game. Yost has succeeded in finding the best pitching matchups in duress situations. Are they overachiever, probably so but if you ask them do they think they belong in the World Series? With an 8-0 playoff record so far, without a doubt!

Watch: J.J. Watt scores his third touchdown of the season on a fumble return

NFLonCBS ‏ NFLonCBS

If someone told you that J.J. Watt scored another touchdown your response probably would go like this, AGAIN!  Yes again, the talented defensive end for the Houston Texans has scored his third touchdown of the season.   It is his third different way of scoring.  Already this season he has mastered a pick six, a touchdown reception and now a 45 yard fumble return.  Take a look: (via XFINITY Sports)

Needless to say J.J. has already scored more touchdowns than the likes of Jamal Charles, Roddy White, DeSean Jackson, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Megatron, AJ Green, LeSean McCoy and Larry Fitzgerald.

Watch: Brandon Belt's the game winning home run

(Nhat V. Meyer/Bay Area News Group)
(Nhat V. Meyer/Bay Area News Group)

Let's see, what does 8 2/3 innings, three hits, five strikeouts and not giving up a single  run with a one run lead get you in Game 2 of the NLDS.  It gives you a closer who couldn't close the deal.  Oh, I forgot to mention it was Jordan Zimmerman, who threw such a gem and I also fail to include he retired 18 straight batters before giving up a walk in the ninth inning with two outs that led manager Matt Williams, a former Giant great, to pull him for a relief pitcher name Drew Storen. After the leadoff walk by Joe Panik which led to the pitching change.  Buster Posey came up and lined a single up the middle.  The table was set Pablo Sandoval who ties the game with an RBI double in the 9th eventually sending the game into extra innings.  Take a look (via MLB.com) At the time the Buster Posey play at the plate was the biggest play of the game.  Jordan Zimmerman and Giants ace Tim Hudson became an afterthought as the Giants and Nationals played an additional nine innings before Brandon Belt put his two cents in. Take a look at Brandon as he Belt's his game winning home run.  (MLB.com) Quiet on the set!  The nitty gritty Giants snatch game two right out of the Nationals hand.  Giants are up 2-0 in the best of five and are headed back to San Francisco where Madison Bumgarner is slated to pitch Game 3 on Tuesday night.  San Francisco seems poised to win it again as its once again an even year.  The last two even years (2010 and 2012) have result in Giants World Series championships. Here's an interesting fact about the 6 hours and 23 minute marathon.

Tim Hudson was also the starting pitcher for Atlanta in the only other 18-inning postseason game in Major League history, a 7-6 victory by the Houston Astros over the Braves in the National League Division Series in 2005. Saturday's game, which lasted 6 hours, 26 minutes, replaced the 2005 game as the longest by time in playoff history.

Watch: Mike Moustakas silence the Angels in the 11th

MLB FAN CAVE                                                                       MLB FAN CAVE

All it took was one swing of the bat from Kansas City Royals third baseman, Mike Moustakas and the heavy favorite Los Angeles Angels find themselves trailing one game to none in the best of five.  Kansas City Royals came into the playoffs dead last in home runs with only 95 for the season.  Well number 96 came just in time as Moustakas hits the game winner off Angels relief pitcher, Fernando Salas.  Moustakas is only slugging .361 for the year which is way below league average with 15 home runs in the regular season. Take a look at Moustakas go-ahead home run in the 11th inning (via gifdsports)

Its been 29 years since the Royals have seen any parts of the playoffs and they find themselves winning their first two playoff games. Call it a cinderella story if you want to; but the Angles are finding out that Kansas City will be a difficult team to beat.

John Harbaugh gets knocked around trying to celebrate with a heavy weight!

johnharbaugh                                                                                             gifdsports.com

All is well in Baltimore for at least one night as the Ravens beat their arch rivals Pittsburgh Steelers in a laugher 26-6. The nail in the coffin came thanks to Haloti Ngata’s interception. Everybody on the Ravens sidelines were quite jovial after the oskie especially Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who decided to do some celebrating himself as he attempted to do the famous jump and bump with 340 pound Ngata! Like I said attempted to take a look: (via gifdsports.com)

Watch: McCutchen's inside-the-park home run

Bill Streicher/USA TODAY Sports                                                        Bill Streicher/USA TODAY Sports

2013 MVP Andrew McCutchen ties the game with an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning. It was the first of his career and the Pittsburgh Pirates rally to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 Wednesday night. The ball screamed off the center field wall skipping past center fielder Ben Revere and it was off to the races for Andrew McCutchen. There was no denying Andrew as he circles the bases without a slide. Check it out: (via MLB.com)
With the win today the Pirates hold on to the last playoff spot in the National League by a 1 1/2-game lead over Atlanta and Milwaukee.

St. Louis rookie second baseman, Kolten Wong, robs a fellow Cincinnati Reds rookie, Billy Hamilton by reaching out and making an outstanding catch that saved a run in the process to end the 4th inning.  With the speed of Hamilton we would have assume he would at least had an RBI double if it wasn't caught by Wong.  Take a look. Watch: The LA Dodgers bedtime story goes comical by multiple errors

Mark J. Terrill/Associated Press                                                  Mark J. Terrill/Associated Press

As half the nation is sound asleep there is still a game going on out west as the LA Dodgers entertain the San Diego Padres.  If I told you a bedtime story about the Dodgers game it normally would go like this:  Soon to be Cy Young award winner Clayton Kershaw was in his dominating form again THE END!  Not this time the story ends in a bit of humor as the Dodgers do something very odd.  Commited three Dodgers' errors on one play.  In the sixth inning of an already 8-1 lead, the Dodgers entertain the crowd with the worse sequence of events on one play.  Take a look (via MLB.com) Hmmm!  A little league home run! Priceless! Dodgers allow two runs on that play. It's all fun and games when you have a large lead but still an embarrassing moment for the team!

Watch: Lorenzo Cain hits a inside-the-park home run while Tigers collide!

(Elizabeth Conley / The Detroit News)
(Elizabeth Conley / The Detroit News)

The most exciting divisional race in baseball belongs to the American League Central. Division leader Kansas City Royals visits Detroit Tigers for a two-game series with the Tigers trailing by one going into this afternoon's game. Well Detroit takes game one by the final score of 9-5. Plenty of offense in today's game but there was a memorable play that happened in the top of the seventh inning with the Royals down 8-3. Lorenzo Cain of the Kansas City Royals hits a fly ball to right-center field and both Tigers outfielders Don Kelly and Torii Hunter ran into each other. It gets better, Kelly runs over to Hunter not realizing that the ball wasn't in Hunter's glove. Take a look where the ball ended up at: (via MLB.com) Now mind you, Torii Hunter is one of the best defensive outfielders the game has ever seen and the confusion on that play resulted in Hunter and Don Kelly colliding. Whatever happen to the phrase "I GOT IT"?

Hunter is a tough guy, the 38-year-old shook it off and stayed in the game. As for Lorenzo Cain, he was credited for an inside-the-park home run but it wasn't enough. Tigers take game one and trail the Royals by one game in the division.

Roger Goodell drops the ball on the Ray Rice fiasco

With all the resources and billions of dollars the National Football League has, you're telling me that they never saw the video released by TMZ Sports before today. Ray Rice and his fiancee made it publicly that there was an altercation in a elevator and the NFL never got a hold of that video. Who's running this organization? A young woman could have been killed! We already knew Ray Rice admitted to the assault and to only receive a two-game suspension? Roger, I thought you knew all the facts? I thought you knew everything about every person who comes through the National Football League. With all the NFL security teams investigating you mean to tell me you couldn't get a hold of that tape!

For those of you still in the dark here's the clip that the National Football League didn't see until today: (tmz.com)

A two game suspension was all Ray Rice received from the NFL and in a court of law; a man can't be tried twice (double jeopardy). There is no need to increase the punishment, we all know from the first video where Rice was dragging his (fiance/now wife)out of the elevator the punishment should have been more severe than a two game suspension in the first place. On August 28, 2014, Goodell changed the rule on domestic violence from two games to a six game suspension. The actions and the consequences of Ray Rice don't meet up at all. Somebody owes the public answers.  For your sake Commissioner Roger Goodell, Ravens GM Ossie Newsome and Coach John Harbaugh, I hope it never comes out that you all saw this tape prior to today. If so, you need to pack your bags, and take Ray Rice with you.  If you want a quick fix you better get Olivia or Papa Pope on the phone and quick!

Update on the Ray Rice situation.  Baltimore Ravens cut Ray Rice as of 2:30 pm edt.  Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended Ray Rice indefinitely.  A decision was made and made correctly.

Watch: NASCAR throws a caution flag after fan climbs fence

@NASCARONFOX                                                                              @NASCARONFOX

What fans will do for attention these days! With the help of some liquid courage, fans are getting themselves into more reckless and possibly fatal situations.  With only 69 laps remaining at the Federated Auto Parts 400 officials had to delay the race with a yellow caution flag for security reasons that had nothing to do with the race itself.  This time it was a fan who climbed the fence enjoying a birdseye view from above. Take a look starting at 2 minutes 31secs into the clip (via BOBMANY1)

How did NASCAR allow this to happen. Needless to say this knucklehead was finally brought down by handful of law enforcement and probably will spend the rest of the night with them.

Barry Sanders Jr. Gets Pulverized!

20140906_170433 What better way to start off Week 2 of the college football season with division rivals Standford vs USC.  Both teams are biding for an early lead in the Pac-12 conference so expect nothing but smash mouth football for four quarters.  If you don't believe how hard these two teams are hitting then check out this highlight that happened in the first quarter as USC senior linebacker Hayes Pullard pulverized the offspring of Barry Sanders! Take a look: (via Steve Noah  ) Needless to say that wasn't Barry Sr. running the ball as he would have done some sort of Houdini move to evade that vicious hit!  Stanford's quarterback Kevin Hogan probably could have saved young Barry Jr. as he hasn't been back into the game since.

Mo'ne Davis throws out the first pitch at Dodgers Stadium

Dodgers.com                                                                                       Dodgers.com

The biggest star in baseball paid a visit to Chavez Ravine Tuesday night to watch Dodger ace, Clayton Kershaw, dominate the Washington Nationals.  The two-time Cy Young Award winner and on pace to get his third won his major league leading 17th victory striking out eight while giving up two walks and allowing one run.  He lowered his ERA to 1.70.  Its something that Little League superstar Mo'ne Davis can relate to, dominating her opponent as she was the first girl to win a Little League World Series game.  She did it in Kershaw fashion as she pitch a shutout!

Tuesday night Mo'ne had to set aside her beloved Philadelphia Phillies for one night as she was a guest of the Los Angeles Dodgers.  The Dodgers invited her to throw out the first pitch.  It had to be a thrill getting a standing ovation and having Vince Scully announce her name prior to throwing out the ceremonial pitch.  Take a look: (via MLB.com) You knew it was going to be a strike!  Not only did Miss Davis throw out the first pitch she had an encounter with Clayton as you saw above and guess who ask for her autograph.  It was a certain Cuban superstar!

I hope that is all Yasiel was asking for! I mean come on man she is 13 man!

Michael Sam and the Cowboys meet for physical Wednesday

www.ibtimes.com                                                           www.ibtimes.com

It ain't over for Sam yet, he may have a suitor depending on a physical schedule for this Wednesday at Valley Ranch.  According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the openly gay defensive end drafted by the St. Louis Rams will come to Valley Ranch on Wednesday. If everything is in order, Dallas would add him to the practice squad.
Michael Sam was the SEC co-defensive player of the year at Missouri; who was selected by the St. Louis Rams with the 249th overall pick.  Sam made his case in preseason performance, coming up with 11 tackles and three sacks in limited action.  There was no surprise that Sam didn't make the 53-man roster because of the crowded front seven that St. Louis has.  It was the understanding Sam would clear waivers Sunday and sign back with St. Louis.  Monday rolled around and the Rams finalized their 10-player practice squad and Sam wasn't included.

Sam and Coach Fisher had a meeting but nothing was discuss but in the meantime Sam now has a team of interest in Dallas.  This may be a blessing in disguise.  Sam may have an opportunity to play in Dallas whose front seven is questionable and in need of a pass rush.  It also gives owner Jerry Jones the splash he has so desired to for.  He passed on Johnny Manziel which was a smart move because there wasn't a need at the quarterback position but if you want headlines.  Sam is your man!

Watch: Matt Kemp Evades Tag By Blaine Boyer at Homeplate.

thesportsshoutout                                                                               thesportsshoutout

Blocking the home plate controversy has once again ruled its ugly head and this rule has to be adjusted immediately.  There has been several instances so far since the rule has come into play this season.  With a month left in the season it is vitally important to resolved these issues before it becomes a major problem come playoff time.  For example, take a look at today's game between the Dodgers and Padres.  Matt Kemp is on third and heads home on a pass ball thrown by Padres pitcher, Blaine Boyer.  Watch how this play at the plate turns out.
How did Blaine miss that tag! Well I will tell you why; because of the Rule 7.13!  Hesitation once again played a factor in the outcome of this play.  If Boyer was able to block some of the plate then Matt Kemp's "Houdini" efforts goes to waste and he's a dead duck!  Boyer flat-out missed the tag and it was great effort by Kemp evading the tag resulting in a run scored.

Bottom line is I know Major League Baseball is out to protect their players, I get that.  There is a disadvantage for the defensive players.  If the catcher/pitcher is covering home plate with the ball waiting on the baserunner its possible that the play will be overturned which is preposterous.  If I'm the third base coach and I have a baserunner at third, I give him the steal home sign every time.  With the rules in play right now he will automatically be safe at home because of this blocking rule.  Bud Selig, before you hand the reigns over to Rob Manfred, please FIX THIS!
