Texas Rangers have played some inspired baseball since the All-Star break going 9-1 in their last ten ball games despite losing Nelson Cruz for the rest of the season because of Biogenesis investigation. The Rangers' general manager John Daniels has taken notice of his ball club erasing a four game Oakland lead and now sees his team tied at the top of the American League West. After accruing Matt Garza from the Cubs last month to help solidify the pitching staff all Daniels needed now was to replace Nelson Cruz's bat. Texas Rangers acquired Alex Rios from Chicago Friday afternoon. The White Sox will send $1 million to Texas toward Rios' salary, sources told ESPN, while receiving either a player to be named later or cash considerations. The Rangers claimed Rios off waivers on Thursday and they were able to work out a deal quickly to allow the nine-year veteran an opportunity to compete for the playoffs.
"Well, I believe it's going to be refreshing for myself," Rios said. "I'm going to go to a team that is fighting for a playoff spot. I believe it's going to be refreshing. I believe they are hoping to win their division and go to the playoffs so let's see what happens."The Rangers made an intelligent move adding Alex Rios off waivers, they tried acquiring him before the trade deadline but the White Sox were asking to high of a price. Adding Rios to the fold lessens the blow of losing Nelson Cruz, who was making similar money. Texas will also have Rios under contract for next season at $13 million with a $2 million buyout for 2015. Rios is not expected to be in the lineup Friday night but will play this weekend against the Houston Astros,
