T206HonusWagnerThe Honus Wagner baseball card is the most sought after card of all-time has been auction off this morning for a reported $2.1million according to Dan Good of the New York Post. It is the highest price ever paid for a card in a public sale, surpassing the $1.62 million paid for the same card back in 2008. Wagner was a Pittsburgh Pirate and revered as one of the greatest shortstops of all-time. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame first class in 1936. T206 Wagner is baseball's most famous card and was once own by NHL superstar Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall, who bought it for $450,000 back in 1991. Then Gretzky sold it to group at Walmart for $500,000 four years later. The Walmart group use it as a prize in a promotional contest won by a Florida resident who then auction it to Michael Gidwitz close to $650,000. In early 2000, the T206 Honus Wagner card was reported sold privately at $1.27M to a known card collector name Brian Seigel, who then sold the card privately in 2007 to an anonymous collector for $2.35M. Believe it or not, the so-called anonymous collector sold the card privately to another anonymous collector 6 months later for $2.8M. Here it is April 2013 and people are still buying this mysterious card. What do people do for a living to afford a 2 million dollar baseball card? Let's me know I am definitely in the wrong business!
